The LPGA Chooses To Exclude Bloggers

by Mike Sigers on May 7, 2007

My golf blog buddy over at The Deep Rough has just been denied a Press Pass for attending the LPGA’s ShopRite Classic.

You’ll notice that I didn’t link to the LPGA and will not ever do so, nor will I offer any coverage of their events or write the names of any of their players until they recind this idiotic decision.

I’m calling on all golf bloggers and golf related websites to do the same.

If they don’t want us to write about them, let’s give them what they want - NO COVERAGE.

Read the full story of the LPGA’s asinine decision over at The Deep Rough.

From now on, the LPGA is persona non grata around here.

It really doesn’t make any sense, does it? It’s good to know I’m not the only one who thinks it’s odd! Thanks Mike!

Hey Sean,

I can only hope we have some others who agree.

It shows that LPGAs PR staff doesn’t quite get it. I’m assuming they must be …shall we say…dinosaurs. At the same time, many LPGA players do get it…They have blogs and myspaces and facebooks…They understand the importance of new media and social networks. That said, the way I’ve gotten press credentials for some high profile golf events is through the sponsors of such events. If a sponsor has a good, young (or at least forward thinking) PR staff they are generally receptive and pleased to have new media coverage. I suggested this to Sean, we’ll see how he makes out.
