Leave you answer in the comments section below this post.

One man’s (or woman’s) question is another man’s answer.

One single thing.

The one most important to you.

One thing.

Let’s tell ‘em what we want and make ‘em beg to give it to us!

It’s that time of the golf season for most of us.

The time when we sit back and wait for the manufacturers to bombard us with the new features of their new golf clubs.

They always have features, but they never have benefits.

High C.O.R? Who cares. What will it help me do? Drive the ball farther into the weeds?

Higher Moment of Inertia? Who cares? Will it really take 3 strokes off my game? Id so, why didn’t it do it this year?

Thinner face? Thicker topline? Whoop-de-freakin’-do!

Features, features and more features.

I need benefits. It’s all about me. Tell me what it’ll help me do and then SHOW ME how to do that.

Money back if it doesn’t work will be nice too.

Then YOU GUYS have some skin in the game and not just me.

So, to set the story straight, EIDOLON Golf President Terry Koehler aka The Wedge Guy and award-winning golf journalist Steve Pike have written “The Spin Zone – The Real Truth About Grooves.”

This 24-page ebook is FREE for downloading at a new website:

www.GrooveSurvey.com.

This is the most comprehensive explanation of the new rules that has been published anywhere. You’ll learn exactly how and why the rule came about and how it will affect your golf and equipment purchasing, if at all.

GrooveSurvey.com also offers you a chance to take “The Great Groove Survey”, which will let you make your thoughts and feelings on the subject be heard.

I’ve already been there, taken the survey, signed up for further updates and downloaded the ebook.

No pain, no effort, no reason not to go, so do it now!

On the heels of the recent launch of Black Widow Tour, golf’s first adjustable cleat that enables golfers to custom match their golf cleats to their swing, balance and weight distribution, Softspikes today unveiled www.blackwidowtour.com.

The new micro-site, along with a related Facebook page and other online marketing initiatives created by Softspikes, the world’s leading golf cleat brand and the #1 cleat on Tour, is designed to promote the innovative features and benefits of Black Widow Tour.

The new interactive website debuts just as the Black Widow Tour cleat arrives at retail, specialty, green grass and off-course retail shops nationwide.

The launch, as Softspikes celebrates 17 years of innovation, also coincides with the 15th Anniversary of the first metal spike ban when Softspikes first changed the game forever, saving golf greens and billions of dollars in golf course and clubhouse maintenance. Further, it was 10-years ago that the original Softspikes Black Widow debuted and redefined the plastic golf cleat category forever.

“We are very excited to launch this new website to promote the unmatched
features and benefits of Black Widow Tour,” said John Hohman, VP of
Marketing, PrideSports, maker of Softspikes. “Everyone has worked so hard
on the development of this site, and we are confident our customers will
find it very beneficial.”

Hohman adds, “As the number one selling cleat brand in the world, and as the cleat of choice for more than 70% of the field at PGA TOUR events for the past 13 years, I believe players of all levels will be very pleased with our new offering in the Softspikes family of cleats.”

In returning to its Black Widow roots, the Black Widow Tour cleats follow in
the Softspikes heritage of providing extreme traction and comfort, combined with ultimate green-friendliness, by taking the Company’s proprietary technologies to the next level in offering golf’s first adjustable cleat.

Defining the innovation behind Black Widow Tour is self-adjusting traction
technology and new “Support Rings” that enable golfers to customize the
level of comfort in their cleats. Highlighted by 8 traction elements,
including 4 large flexible legs that provide unmatched grip on any
terrain/surface, the cleat is matched with 4 cushioning towers that absorb
secondary loads and then distribute the golfer’s weight throughout the
cleat. These features are then combined with proprietary “Support Rings”
that allow golfers the option to select the comfort setting that best suits
their game. “Support Rings” attached to each individual Black Widow Tour
cleat can be positioned in two distinct settings:

Tour-Comfort Setting: Provides maximum flex, ultimate comfort and extreme traction.

Tour-Firm Setting: Provides extreme traction through a firmer, spike-like feel, by providing more resistance at initial impact.

“Adjustability has become a big part of golf equipment today, as players
strive to custom match their equipment to their golf swing,” said Hohman.
“We have taken this same approach with Black Widow Tour and utilized our proprietary technology to enable golfers to customize their level of
comfort, which positively impacts each individual player’s swing, balance
and weight distribution.”

With Black Widow Tour, Softspikes expects to replicate the success of the
original Black Widow, which was launched in 1999 as the most innovative golf cleat ever developed, offering unmatched traction, comfort and durability.

Soon after its introduction, Foot Joy, the world’s leading golf shoe
company, made Black Widow original equipment on all of its golf shoes.
This, along with strong consumer appeal for the product, quickly made Black
Widow the #1 selling cleat in the world – a distinction Softspikes maintains
today. Equally important, Black Widow became the cleat of choice on TOUR,
amassing hundreds of victories.

It’s a few degrees over 90 in Kentucky today and I can pour water on the inside of my Amphibian and use the inside to clean off my clubs and the outside to dry ‘em off.

Last week, when it was raining off and on for a week, all I had to do was reverse the process. I used the outside as the wet and the inside stayed dry for the entire round, even with me wiping off clubs 2-3 times per hole.

I’m in golf towel love, so do not try to come between us!

And the BrushPro was the best tool I’ve ever used for cleaning my grooves. Whether I used the retractable spike or the combo bristles, both were as good as I could have wanted.

I got mine in University of Kentucky blue to help balance out the Western Kentucky Hilltopper mascoy headcover, Big Red!

Whatever color you choose, the Amphibian Towel and the Brushpro get the Travelling Golfer’s highest recommendation!

Would you like to turn it into a sure-fire bet winner that kills the momentum of your buddies with a birdie barrage of skulls and crossbones?

If so, head on over to get your shaft skinz!

In the thumbnail at the top of this post, I just turned an ordinary Odyssey White Hot into a University of Kentucky blue birdie machine! Click on it for a large, detailed view.

You could also try to emulate the fan-favorite from the Panhandle of Florida, Boo Weekley, by using a camo Shaft Skinz on your favorite putter, hybrid or driver.

I’m thinkin’ that Boo would put it on all of his clubs AND his rifles and shotguns as well!

The good people at Shaft Skinz also have a skull and crossbones style that would look great on my VooDoo Daddy putter, so I’ll need to go back and order a few more for myself.

My hybrids will be be par-5 killers with the green snakeskin styles on them, which will match nicely with the green color that Nickent used in the manufacturing process.

There’s a ton of possibilities here, so head over to their website and try a few.

Remember the NEW Travelling Golfer philosophy…If you can’t play good, at least you can look good !

PS – Don’t those flames makes you want to burn your buddies with birdies?

I gotta start hittin’ the little white ball around a mowed, green countryside soon, so I need to get some fresh golf balls.

I’m sure the one’s in my bag, left over from 2008, are bad, stale and not in a good mood.

So, as is my usual, I head over to The Golf Channel and see what they have to say about golf balls.

I got me two dozen MC Lady Precept, ’cause they were less than $10/dozen and because of their low compression. They work great for the first few weeks of our season, when it’s still cool and the air’s crisp.

I’ll head back later this week and get some other one’s for late May and early June.

Any suggestions?

I want it to have 13 or 14 degrees of loft.

I’ll hit that dude about 265, maybe more and I may not carry a driver, except for scrambles.

I’m going all out this year for lower scores and they tell me that lower scores happen more often when you play from the fairway.

After having so much fun looking for golf shoes a post or two ago, I figure why change something that’s working. So I headed over to The Golf Channel website and used their handy dandy filter/selector to look for all kinds of golf woods.

I used 3-4 simple, easy clicks to filter in fairway woods, right hand, graphite shafts and 13 degrees and all I have to do now is look for reviews of 23 3-woods, instead of the over 100 hundred I started with.

Pretty handy, if you ask me, to be able to get rid of all the elements that you don’t want and make your research into buying golf equipment a lot easier.

Anybody have a suggestion as to what 13 or 14 degree 3-wood is the best they’ve ever hit?

Leave your advice in the comment section below or send me an email.

It’s been raining here for the last 5-7 days and pretty chilly, so today’s 60 degrees and sunny skies was the first chance I’ve had to drop by our range and hit this sweet little par 5 killer.

Why would I refer to it as a par 5 killer ? Because that’s what I overheard Gary McCord refer to his hybrid as. I can hit 3-wood or driver off the tee and then hit this hybrid and easily get to every green that’s 470-500 yards away. Easily.

My friends hated it that I could hit my 3-wood 235-250 off the tee and then hit my old Adams 20 degree hybrid 220, making most par 5′s an easy birdie hole, with 2 putts or an easy chip on and a birdie putt.

Today’s 60 degree temperature and with the wind quartering in to me didn’t stop me from peppering the 225 marker on the range with our Srixon range balls.

10-20 feet of fade or 20-30 feet of draw was the shot of the day with the Bobby Jones Hybrid. And for my first time hitting it, that’s not too bad. Not too bad at all.

If I can hit the 20-30 feet of draw, getting me a little run on a dry fairway, I’ll hit it on tight or short par 4′s. The fairway plays so much better than the rough. Seems to promote lower scores for some strange reason.

If I can hit it with a 10-20 foot drop over fade into green’s, it’ll easily hold 225-235 yard approach shots. Easily.

MY only nitpick is the shaft selection I made. I had never hit a JS-7 shaft before and every clubfitter and salesperson who sees my 6’2″ 250 lb. frame assumes I need a stiff shaft.

If they’ve never seen me swing, they don’t know I’m a fairly smooth swinger, on occasion and really prefer a softer shaft.

Maybe not a full blown regular, as when I build my own clubs I tend to cut the shaft exactly between stiff and regular, maybe you could call that a firm.

But, don’t get me wrong, it’s not like the stiff version of the JS-7 is as stiff as a board, like the green NV was in my Adams hybrid. I hate that shaft with an ugly, burning passion.

This stiff is just barely a teeny bit too stiff and makes me swing a tad harder than I want to. Barely. Not much, just barely.

The sole of the Bobby Jones hybrid is one of the best features about it.

It’s lower in the middle, like a keel and it really allows you to go down in the dirt after the ball, so from bad lies it really worked well.

I believe it’s a throwback to some of the old time wooden clubs that worked so well, before metal got in the way.

I put the ball into divots, tall grass and on bare, moist dirt and it went and got it and moved it forward with purpose.

It’ll also come in handy when I have to use it around the greens as a chipping club, as I went over to the practice green and tested that too.

The biggest surprise for me was the ‘thwack’ sound it made, instead of a tinny, metallic ping of some sort that most clubs make today.

As you would expect, that’s because the designer, Jesse Ortiz was around working on wooden clubs with a rasp and file when he started years ago, instead of just in front of a CAD program, like a lot of today’s golf club designers.

It really feels like a solid club and that distinctive sound adds to the solid feeling, as mind, ears and hands all work together to provide the final feedback you feel.

The grip is perfect for me. It feels like a Winn, that’s a compliment, and has great markings and is visually appealing.

Not too hard, not too squishy. Just right. Kinda like the porridge that Goldilock’s loved so much.

Overall, I’m tremendously happy to own this hybrid and I’m looking forward to calling some friends tomorrow and asking them if they want to venture down to Alabama and play a couple of the RTJ Golf Trail courses.

I need to play a few rounds with this sweet little club before the winter weather makes golf a dream, instead of a reality.

A few years back Jesse Ortiz revolutionized the fairway wood part of the game of golf. Today he’s done the same thing for hybrids, as I’m pretty sure it can’t get any better than this.

He also made sure it would look great in your bag by giving us another throwback, the knit headcover.

I like it much, much better than some of the ginormous headcovers we’re stuck with today.

It’ll work itself easily into my carry bag and won’t make me get a map just to find a way around it, looking for another club.

If the driver and fairway woods are anywhere near this solid and easy to hit, my carry bag may well look a lot different next spring !

My 3-wood is pretty well settled in, theorhetically, but that Cobra driver with that awful green NV shaft has been looking for an escape clause all year.

Do yourself a favor and drop by the Bobby Jones Golf website and use their convenient store locator to find the nearest shop to you.

Believe me, you’ll be glad you did.

Let’s start by saying I have never owned, as of yet, a golf ball retriever.

I’m kinda like Natalie Gulbis, who said in a commercial, that she let’s ‘em stay in the water, lest they come back and infect the other ones in the bag.

BUT, and that’s a big butt, but not quite as big as J-lo’s, I may just have to invest in one of these sweet little retrievers I just read about in a Press Release.

This season’s greatest gift idea for golfers may be the one of the most versatile golf ball retrievers ever built – The Dipper (TM) compact golf ball retriever from www.dippergolf.com.

The small, yet sturdy Dipper clips to the shaft of the golfer’s three iron,
or other bladed club, and extends to over 12 inches. This configuration
makes it ideal for the easy retrieval of golf balls from hazards such as
ponds, creeks, and wetlands. Yet when collapsed for storage, the retriever is only 7 inches long and weighs less than 3 ounces. In addition, it has an integrated groove-cleaning tool for extra versatility.

The Dipper’s compact size makes it ideal for golfers, like me, who don’t want to carry a bulky, unsightly ball retriever with their golf clubs.

Easily stored in the pocket of a golf bag, the retriever enables a golfer to ‘just clip and dip’ to recover a golf ball in a water hazard. At a time of rising golf ball costs, it’s an easy and inexpensive way to protect your investment.

The Dipper is an ideal holiday gift and comes in several colors.

Constructed of aircraft aluminum and high impact plastic, The Dipper is
rustproof and is built for years of service on the golf course. It’s available in selected golf pro shops and at the company’s Web site at
www.dippergolf.com for a suggested retail price of $12.95.

Discounts are available for large quantity orders — and can be branded with an organization’s logo.

If you buy one and save an almost drowned ProV1, you can always say you ” Won one with The Dipper ! ”

Sorry Knute, that was kinda sad.
